The Internet has opened up all kinds of opportunities for people to connect online. Chat rooms, for example, have become an incredibly popular communication, especially in the adult dating world. Following just a few common courtesies will ensure that your experience is fun and exciting for everyone involved.
1. Advanced Preparation
Take a moment to read our chatroom guidelines and rules, found here: Chatroom T&C . Rules will differ from site to site so it's a good idea to acquaint yourself with them each time you use a new site.
2. Learning the Ropes
After you've joined one of our chat rooms, spend some time 'lurking' before you join the conversation. Lurking is simply watching the conversation for a short time so that you become familiar with the topic and tone of the room before you jump right in. And, in speaking while in a chat room, try not to type in long, detailed messages that will take alot of time and space. Also, never interrupt someone else. Be patient; you will get your chance to speak.
3. Introductions
Once you decide to participate in the conversation, make sure to introduce yourself. Take a moment to offer a quick 'hello' before you jump in. When you are entering a chat room, you should always greet everyone whether you know them or not. Be sure to wait until there is a lull in the conversation already in progress, though. This ensures that your hello wont get lost in a fast moving conversation. And, when someone else enters the room, you should make it a point to at least recognize their presence and greet them with a friendly "Hi (their screen name)!"
4. Getting to know people.
In the chatroom there are icons next to everyones name:
X - male
X - female
XX - couple
So you can see straight away whether they are a female, male or a couple. If you click their name in the user list and then click view profile, you will be taken straight to their profile so you can see their ages, descriptions, location and any pictures if they have uploaded them.
Check profiles first instead of asking asl (age/sex/location). Aside from being an annoyance, its seen as rude to ask instead of taking the time to read a profile. People have taken the time to fill them out, so please take the time to read them.
Also many people won't want to whisper (private message) with people unless they ask first. We have a feature for people to deny unwanted whispers, so it does pay to ask first so you don't get denied.
A name with a blue star next to it is a moderator (mod), and a name with a red star next to it is an administrator (admin).
Mods and Admin are here to help people with any problems they have and make sure people are keeping to the chat rules and site AUP.
5. Keeping Your Cool
From time to time, the chat room might be visited by someone with the sole mission to agitate the participants. Don't let their rude or confrontational behavior heat you up. In most cases ignoring the person being rude will cause them to move on quickly. On the flip side, don't be rude and confrontational yourself, even accidentally. You might not always be able to get your tone across because people can't hear your voice or see your facial expressions. They may misinterpret your comments as being rude. Do not verbally abuse, attack, embarrass, or threaten anyone else in the chat room, no matter what they might say to you.
6. Protecting Yourself
At all times keep your wits about you and be careful about how much personal information you are divulging. As a general safety precaution, donâ't give out your phone number, full name, address, or email address¦ and don't ask others for this information without first getting to know them. If you need to give someone your details, message them through your profile or whisper them through chat. Posting personal details in the public chat is a big no-no. Also perhaps you've met a fellow chatter in the real world and you know their real name. Keep their security and privacy in mind and only refer to them by their username. Unless they asked to be called by their real name.
7. Be Polite
It is considered rude to type all in CAPS and to use overly offensive language. So don't. Using caps is considered yelling in net speak. Also asking people if they are into cyber sex or show on cams constantly is rude too. People commonly come into chatrooms to have a good time and chat, not to be hassled.
8. Have Fun!
Use common sense and courtesy, and there is nothing to say that your chatroom experience won't be a good one. We hope to see more new faces in our chatrooms.
