I'm trying to find some fun on this site and I get the feeling that couples and singles are more looking for there own age group?

I've found that generally speaking its not about what couples and singles women DONT want, its what they DO want.
Everyone is on here for similar reasons and what puts one single male above the others in the herd, is not age but maturity. Not to be confused as the same thing!!
Its maturity that evokes the notion of honesty and discretion, both vitally important on making SH work for you. Unfortunately being a young single male you are pushing shit up hill already, as there are hundreds in your position prior to you that have set a standard and most whom you talk to will have a preconceived idea of what you are about, whether they are right or not.
Your job is to let those your talking to know you are different, and if you truly are it shouldn't be too hard.
Your not going to get everyone on side, some people are not interested in you. But how many times have you bombed out in a pub/club. I've never met someone with a perfect strike rate yet ;)
Some tips:
Define exactly what you want. (up for anything is a go nowhere statement)
Find who wants similar.
Dont expect it to fall in your lap.
Be honest to yourself and those you talk to on here, the community is generally small and if your not honest you will be caught out and others will know about it.

We love catching up with younger guys and have a few regulars, the problem as I see it is that there are so many we get inundated daily with younger guys looking and at least one a day that wants to catch up. I do feel sorry for the ones out there that would love to have fun with us, but we are limited on time so we become very choosey. All I can say is keep trying and be really nice and remember sex is important when making contact but so are other things.

I'm in the same position and haven't have much luck meeting people here but I have no issues chatting and having good time at parties and events.
I didn't have my profile set up well so I have recently added a private album and have joined the chatroom...(still learning the ropes on how to use it effectively)
But I guess it takes time and effort to gain the respect of others when there are so many singles who are strangers.
