Hi Blue,
Have your friend download and install it, then once it produces the log, paste it back into the web page and see what it says. The download link is at the top right of the page "Direct to download".
Have your friend delete anything that has a red X (this can be done in hijackthis program - Just match the numbers) reboot, then run it again till it is all safe.
I suspect you have some malware running causing this issue.
If this doesn't fix it, or you don't have any malware running, it could be faulty hardware..
Good luck!

Another option: Do a system restore to a date before the problem started and see if that fixes the problem. Your friend should know how to do that but if you need help let me know.

Hi Blue
Has this just started to occur after Nortons was reloaded, if so it may pay to look for a patch.
Also, where is it slow in the boot.
Does it start with a general boot and memory check OK or is it slow and hangs as it loads the bios?
Or is it slow to load Vista,
Found this
VISTA SLOW BOOTUP FIXED
by googxmsr - 3/09/08 21:17 In reply to: is it vista compatible by ict-cramps
using vista home premium on new hp dual core 2gb ram laptop.
msconfig -> services -> hide all microsoft services -> uncheck these if they exist: xaudio, vongo, stllsvr,roxmediad89, installdriver table manager, cyberlink background, cyberlink task,
Then click on boot tab ->advanced options -> number of processors 2 -> maximum memory.
I went from 2 min to 15 seconds bootup doing this.

might be worth a try or also found this
TWEAK YOUR BIOS
When your computer has slow boot, it may have nothing to do with Windows at all. There is a Basic Input/Output System known as the BIOS. The BIOS runs at the startup sequence where it configures devices and then boots the operating system. However, if the configuration is messy and has some obscure commands, this will cause a slow boot up. Depending on your mother board manufacturer, you may have the access the BIOS differently.
1. Turn on your computer, and hold down delete.
2. In the BIOS window, look for the Boot Menu option.
3. Choose the QUICK BOOT to turn off memory test
.4. Make sure the hard drive comes first in the BOOT ORDER.
5. Turn off any logo displays.
6. Restart

but only do one at a time, fucking with the bios can cause some issues but this switch shouldnt have aneffect
Hope it helps
