Firstly- Thank you for taking the time to read this.
My name is Amy Harman, I live in Brisbane Australia and I’m currently exploring the culture and community of Swinging. I have never participated in the Swinging community, that said, I’m a huge advocate for the topic of sexualization and the communities surrounding this topic and the thought of participating is considerable to me. From what I have gathered thus far, the Swinging community it very tight-knit, and doesn't take to well to ‘outsiders’. It seems trust has to be earned. This is completely understandable, considering the popular emergence of the swinging subculture, it seems some of the authenticity has been lost and much skepticism and misconception surround's the community. People, particularly outsiders, lack the understanding needed to appreciate the aesthetics and values that truly lie within the community. I have an idea that I want to reach out to members of the swinging community about. I’m focusing on making a short documentary, around 5-10 minutes; where we can explore the true origins and emergence of the swinging community. During my attempts to reach out to the community, I’ve been searching to find where the heart of the swinging subculture exists. I’ve come to see the nuances within the community, this being its ’exciting’ and ‘sexual’ attributes, while also adhering to ‘ethics’, 'morals’ and ‘boundaries’ that help form the community. Given your experience and knowledge within the community, I’m reaching out in hopes you know of anyone who would be interested in participating in this project? I can assure you I would be highly conscious of how I would be portraying the subculture and make sure I represent the people giving their time with dignity and sensitivity. My main hope is to conduct an interview or two to hear the perspectives of the community.
